Fork Bow tutorial

We have all seen those beautiful small bows on cards. I could never seem to do these by hand so I was very happy when I stumbled upon a picture of how to do these. I can't seem to locate the original post that taught me, so thank you to whomever that was.

The ribbon I am using is the new Ruched Ribbon from the 2016 Stampin' Up! Catalogue in Flirty Flamingo. This ribbon is perfect for fork bows!

Here is the tutorial:

Start with a fork (my fork is a plastic one that came in a pack I picked up at the dollar store) , and a length of ribbon

Fold the ribbon over to the right side

Take the piece from underneath the fork, fold it over the top piece of ribbon and insert it into the middle of the fork . Pull taut

Take the piece on the right and fold it back to insert it into the middle of the fork above the current fold

Pull tight and it should look look like the below with both tails on the back of the fork

Turn the fork over and tie ends with a simple knot. Pull tight and it should look like this:

Gently slide it off the fork and shape as desired

Double Flap Birthday card

When I got my pre-order for the 2016 Stampin' Up! Catalogue, the first thing I wanted to use was the adorable hedgehogs from the Love You Lots set. I also wanted to colour the flowers from Fabulous Flora. I decided to join the two and add one of the new in colours, which is quickly becoming my go to pink, Flirty Flamingo

Here is the birthday card I designed

It has a double flap, which allowed me to include both of the stamps I was so eager to use into one card

Materials:

Main card Base Crumb Cake 8.5" x 4 1/4", scored at 3"
Smaller base Crumb Cake 8" x 3", scored at 4"

Main card mat Whisper White 5 1/4" x 4"
Smaller mat (inside and outside of smaller base) 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" (you need 2 of these)

Left flap mat Flirty Flamingo 4" x 2 3/4"
Left flap Whisper White 3 3/4" x 2.5"

Stamp Sets:
Fabulous Flora, Birthday Blooms, You've Got This, Love You Lots

Ink:
Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Flirty Flamingo, Archival Black

Markers:
Flirty Flamingo, Emerald Envy, Sweet Sugarplum, Peakaboo Peach, Crumb Cake

Ribbon:
Flirty Flamingo Ruched Ribbon

Instructions:

Sponge the edges of all of the Whisper White pieces.

Stamp the hedgehog from Love You Lots in Early Espresso ink on a Whisper White piece (3 3/4"x 2 3/4")
Stamp over the hedgehog with the background stamp from You've got this in Crumb Cake ink
Colour the heart flower in Flirty Flamingo, and the leaf in Emerald Envy

Stamp the flowers in Archival Black on Whisper White piece (3 3/4" x 2.5").
Colour using listed Markers

Stamp the sentiment from Birthday Blooms using Flirty Flamingo ink on Whisper White piece (3 3/4" x 2 3/4")
Stamp the small flower from Birthday Blooms in Archival Black. Colour with Flirty Flamingo and Emerald Envy

Create a fork bow using approx 9.5" of ribbon (see my Fork ribbon post for more instructions)

Use glue dots to adhere bow to ribbon, and to attach to hedgehog piece. You can secure the ends using tape

Glue Flirty Flamingo mat to left flap white piece (stamped with flowers) and adhere to left flap on large card base
Adhere largest Whisper white mat to the main base of the card

Adhere sentiment to inside of smaller card base, keeping in mind that base will open from left to right
Adhere hedgehog to front of smaller card base

Line up the sentiment part of the smaller card base under left flap, and the hedgehog over the left flap. I chose to make sure mine covered the image on the left flap

I found it easier to line it up and centre it over the flap and holding it by the flap, adding glue to where it will meet the main card base

I hope you like this card!

Thank You Shutter Card

Every few months I get together with a fabulous group of demonstrators here on Vancouver Island and we exchange cards in a swap. I always come away amazed by the ideas and techniques that are shared.

I designed a fun shutter card for the Thank you swap. I won Queen of the swaps for this one so I'm very proud of it!

Here is the card assembled:

Then when you remove the belly band and open the card, you get a wonderful surprise! As you open the flap, the shutters open to reveal your sentiment

The card is actually very simple to make.  Here are the dimensions and materials, with instructions below

Base Rich Razzleberry 8.5" x 5.5", scored at 2 1/8", 6 3/8"
DSP for the outside panels Watermelon Wonder 5 1/4" x 1 7/8" (you need 2)
Inside mat Rich Razzleberry 5 1/2" x 3
Inside DSP Watermelon Wonder 5 1/4" x 2 3/4"
Whisper White

Belly band: Watermelon Wonder 11" x 1/2", scored at 3 1/8", 7 3/8"

Stamp sets:
Circle of Spring, First Sight, You're Sublime

Ink:
Archival Black, Peakaboo Peach, Rich Razzleberry

Markers:
Island Indigo, Rich Razzleberry, Watermelon Wonder, Peakaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum, Flirty Flamingo, Emerald Envy

Framelits:
Banners

Punches:
1 3/4" circle punch, Flower Medallion, 1 1/4" circle punch

Instructions:
To create DSP, use large flourish from First Sight stamp set, and randomly stamp using Rich Razzleberry ink on Watermelon Wonder cardstock

Adhere the DSP to the front of the card

Adhere inside mat to inside DSP, then using either the 1 3/4" circle punch, or if you want a larger window, use a 2" circle punch to cut out a window
Attach inside mat using Dimensionals at the top and bottom of the mat

Stamp wheelbarrow from You're Sublime stamp set in Whisper White paper in Archival Black ink, and punch out using the 1 3/4" circle punch. Colour with listed markers

Adhere sentiment through window (note: if you choose to use the 1 3/4" punch for both the window and the sentiment, you will need to lift the mat on one side to force the sentiment through)

Using the largest Banner Framelit, cut out 2 banners in Rich Razzleberry.  Placing the tips of the banner ends on the 3" mark on your trimmer, cut the banners down. Then move the end over to the 1/2" mark and score. Make sure to burnish the score line well

Place the straight edge of the banner on the inside of the score line on the card, under the inside mat, centre over the sentiment.

Apply glue or tear tape to the top of the banner piece between the edge of the scored banner line and the straight edge

Close the card and apply pressure where the glue is.

Open the card and the banner piece should be adhered to the inside flap of the card and will move when the card is opened

Repeat on other side, making sure to close the opposite flap slightly to make sure they are lined up when opened. It should form a diamond

To create the belly band, stamp the Thank You sentiment from Circle of Spring in Peakaboo Peach on Whizper White and punch out using the 1 1/4" circle punch.  Use Dimensionals to add sentiment to a piece of Watermelon Wonder punched out using the Flower Medallion punch. Glue to flower down over the overlapped piece of the belly band

Enjoy!

Birthday Blooms birthday card

I love making cards, but I always design a new card for family and friends for their birthdays.
Here is the gorgeous card I made for my Mom's birthday

I scored the whisper white at 1/4 inch all around with the Simply Scored board. Then I flipped it over and scored again at 1/2". I added a piece of Love Blossoms dsp (4 3/8" x 3 1/8").  I used the crease pad to emboss the Lots of Labels framelits (the sandwich that worked for my big shot was tab 1 of the multipurpose platform, acrylic plate, crease pad, framelits facing up(held straight together with washi tape), then acrylic plate. I then used the magnetic platform to cut it out with the larger of the two framelits.
I heat embossed the sentiment from Birthday Blooms with gold embossing powder.

I also heat embossed the flower on vellum with gold powder and used the stained glass technique by colouring on the back using Stampin Write markers (rose red and mint macaroon)and then I fussy cut it out.

The inside of the card is just as pretty. I stamped the larger flower with Versamark and heat embossed with black embossing powder. Then I coloured the flower with Blushing Bride and Mint Macaroon markers. I used the white gel pen to colour the little bits in the inside of the flower.

The piece de la resistance? My new favourite colouring tool. Wink of Stella in clear!
I coloured over the entire flower. It's so sparkly. You can watercolour with this, just like an Aqua Painter. Just keep in mind that it will move colour around, even when it's dry

I'm looking forward to teaching this card in an upcoming class.

Valentine's Cards class

After a long break, I'm back to having classes. The flu and visiting family both kept me occupied during December and January. I also moved my craft area into our den where I have added some fabulous bins and re-purposed some existing furniture to hold my stamps and supplies. I'll be sure to add pictures once it's all organized!

I'm so excited for the new Occasions and Saleabration products that we have this year!
Here are the cards I designed for my upcoming Valentines class

For this card, I used Awesomely Artistic stamp set, and stamped the background in Crumb Cake. I stamped the word, frame in crumb cake and then used the Stamp a ma jig to stamp over it with versamark and then heat embossed with Clear embossing powder. I added 3/8" stitched satin ribbon and popped the greeting up using Dimensionals. It sits on a black mat on a crumb cake card base.

For the next card I used the Going Places dsp, the world traveller embossing folder, both from the 2016 Occasions catalogue, and the Sky is the limit stamp set from the Saleabration catalogue
I stamped the plane with Night of Navy and the trail in Marina Mist on Whisper White, punched out a 1/2" piece of vellum, used a mini brad and the 1/16" hole punch to secure the vellum as a propeller and then fussy cut it out.  I glued the DSP down to the whisper white mat and then ran it through the embossing folder. Then I popped up the plane with Dimensionals
I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy and punched it out with the Decorative label punch, and then used the tag punch from the Curvy Corner trio punch and folded silver 5/8" satin ribbon to fit through and wrapped it around the first layer. I added a black mat 5 3/8" x 4 1/8" on a Lost Lagoon base.

For the last card, I stamped the flourish from Everyday Eleanor in Mint Macaroon ink. I used the Floral Frames framelits (2 and 3 from the middle) on Real Red paper. Then I sponged the edges with Cherry Cobbler to give it dimension.  I stamped the sentiment in memento black from the What I Love stamp set from Saleabration. I added two glue dots to the back of a chocolate heart and added it to the flower. I added a real red mat on a Sahara Sand base.
